RECREATION CENTRE AND SPORTS PAVILION

The Recreation Centre is located on Pershore Road leading out of the village towards the bridge over the River Avon. It features playing fields where the village cricket and football clubs play and a children's play area.

A newly refurbished play area was opened in July 2007 for children aged 2 to 12 years old, including a zip wire, mini rock wall and supernova roundabout. With a large green open space, the recreation area gives an air of a village area to play football and other ball games. Dogs are not allowed on the playing field.

A recently opened Sports Pavilion (October 2008) is home to Eckington Seniors Football Club, Eckington Cricket Club, Pershore Cricket Club, Eckington Juniors FC (more info www.eckingtonjuniors.co.uk External Link) and Eckington under Fives pre-school.

RECENT EVENTS
Friends and residents were invited for afternoon tea and a demonstration of the archeological dig of the Eckington site was held in the sports pavilion on Wednesday 24 June 2009. The event concluded in glorious sunshine with a friendly cricket match between Rooftop staff and a mixed Pershore cricket team. The results ended Pershore 167 runs and Rooftop 150 runs. A close finish concluded a successful and informative event.

Bell boating - Saturday 27th June As part of the parish games competition a crew of eight young men from Eckington won the bell boating event in Pershore trained and assisted by Rachel Oliver. The event consisted of ten teams including Fladbury who have won for the pasty four years. Eckington need to defend their title next year.

Eckington Music festival held at the recreation centre on Sunday 28 June 2009. Hosted by Friends of Eckington School fund raising committee. A "Glastonbury" type affair with local bands and talent from the village. A busy bar supplying thirsty performers and guest with Pimms and liquid refreshments in wonderful sunshine. Beef burgers and hotdogs giving a substantial lunch to friends and families of the performers. Children of all ages were able to safely enjoy the play area facilities and hopefully funds will be boosted for continued support of Eckington First school.
